Curly and Kind
my story, our journey
Hi ! My name is Sakshi, and I was born with the curly hair gene. A gift, some may say.
Not me. For 33 years, I did not look at my hair as a boon, but more as a bane.
My mum, on her part told me I had gorgeous, enviable hair. And then I would look in the mirror and all that would stare at me was dry, lacklustre hair. A frizzy mess. I was bullied in school for me hair. I was called names like noodle head or an untamed lion (a label I would proudly wear now as an adult, but as a child, it sounded mean to me).
So, I did everything possible to make my hair behave. I got sucked into a world of chemically straightening my hair every 6 months. And what a drug it was! It would give me a high the first few weeks and then the lows – hair falling, the little root curls creeping back. And so would go on this vicious cycle of fighting nature.
Until one fine day, in 2018, my hair straightener broke down just as I was about to leave for work, and I felt what I can only imagine a mild panic attack feels like.
That day I did not go to work because I felt so stressed. What followed was a sense of shame that I had left my hair hold me back to the point I couldn’t function with a simple daily routine of getting dressed and going to work.
In an act of desperation, I reached out to a curly hair community on facebook and discovered a wealth of information on caring for curly hair. Seeing firsthand how products and routine make a genuine difference, I started documenting and sharing my journey on a little corner of the internet. My interest turned into a passion and eventually I started making my own curly hair products, based on a gap in the market for all natural , effective, simple and kind to hair ingredients.
And so was born Curly & Kind.
I believe in chemical free hair care that is gentle, and I make my own 100% natural formulations like curl styling gel and treatment oils that repair years of damage. I also offer 1 on 1 curl styling coaching, hair assessment, product and routine recommendations.
My mission is simple - I do not want another person to be insecure of their frizz, knowing the beauty that lies within their hair. Curly hair is beautiful, and I am here to help you learn how to manage it.
